Maldonado
Maldonado is the capital of the department of the same name and is located just a few kilometers from Punta del Este. The city combines colonial heritage with modern Uruguayan daily life and offers an authentic alternative to the tourist hustle and bustle of the coastal towns.
With over 60,000 inhabitants, Maldonado is the administrative and commercial center of the region. Here you will find government offices, courts, notary offices and important public institutions. For real estate buyers and immigrants, the city is therefore an important point of contact for all formal matters.
Maldonado was founded in 1755 by the Spanish and is thus one of the oldest cities in Uruguay. The colonial architecture around Plaza San Fernando bears witness to this rich history.
Real estate prices in Maldonado are significantly cheaper than in Punta del Este, which makes the city attractive for families and long-term residents. Many barrios offer quiet living with good infrastructure and short distances to the beach.
From Maldonado you can reach both the beaches of Punta del Este and the hinterland with its estancias and nature reserves in just a few minutes. The city is therefore an ideal starting point for explorations throughout the entire department.
