The DGI (Dirección General Impositiva) is Uruguay's tax authority and is responsible for collecting most taxes. Every resident must apply for a RUT number here.

The RUT (Registro Único Tributario) is the tax number and is required for all economic activities. Online services are available at dgi.gub.uy.
