Prado
Prado is one of Montevideo's oldest and most traditional neighborhoods. At the center of the neighborhood lies Parque del Prado, the city's largest green space, which was designed as an English landscape park in the 19th century.
The historic villas of Prado mostly date from the late 19th and early 20th centuries and reflect the wealth of the Uruguayan upper class of that time. Many of these magnificent houses are now protected monuments and give the neighborhood its unique character.
The Jardín Botánico in Parque del Prado houses over 1,000 plant species and is a popular destination.
In addition to the Botanical Garden, Parque del Prado also offers a rose garden, Montevideo Zoo, and historic monuments. The annual Semana Criolla, a traditional gaucho festival, takes place here and attracts visitors from across the country.
Real estate in Prado is an interesting option for lovers of historic architecture. While some villas have been extensively restored, others offer renovation potential at relatively affordable prices. The neighborhood is ideal for those who appreciate green spaces and historic ambiance.
