Uruguay protects intellectual property through national laws and international agreements. The country is a member of WIPO and has ratified the TRIPS Agreement.

The Dirección Nacional de la Propiedad Industrial (DNPI) is responsible for the registration of trademarks and patents. Copyright protection arises automatically with creation.
