Cerro del Toro - Piriapolis
The Cerro del Toro - Bull Hill - rises north of Piriapolis and bears on its summit an imposing bronze statue of a bull. This sculpture is a work by Uruguayan artist Juan Zorrilla de San Martin.
The ascent leads through dense vegetation and offers repeated views of the bay along the way. Once at the top, a wide panorama opens up over the entire region to the Atlantic.
The mighty bull statue symbolizes strength and determination. It was erected in 1922 and is today one of the most famous landmarks of Piriapolis.
The Cerro del Toro is a popular destination for hikers and nature lovers. The trails are well marked and lead through native flora. For early risers, the sunrise from the summit is an unforgettable experience.
