Cerro San Antonio - Piriapolis
The Cerro San Antonio is the local mountain of Piriapolis and one of the most popular excursion destinations in the region. On its summit is located a small chapel dedicated to Saint Anthony.
The historic cable car - the Teleferico - takes visitors comfortably to the 130-meter-high summit. The ride offers spectacular views of the bay and the surrounding hills. Alternatively, a hiking trail leads up.
The Teleferico was built in 1946 and is thus one of the oldest cable cars in South America. The cabins offer space for a few people and convey nostalgic charm.
From the summit one overlooks the entire bay of Piriapolis, the Argentino Hotel and on clear days as far as Punta del Este. The chapel is a popular venue for weddings and baptisms.
